Fringe is hard to wear in the bathroom

Okay, I am not on the fringe train right now, but I did recently buy an Umgee fringe vest. I don’t know if the 70s is completely my style, but I can take a few nods from the era here and there.  The vest was cute though, and I thought it might be a fun way to get to wear a vest in the summer and keep my thumb on some sort of a current trend.  I’m wearing it today (round 3 of chemo, day 12 of 14), and one of the side effects of my lovely little neuroendocrine tumor is that I’m in the bathroom…a lot.  We won’t get into too many details because I’d like for you to continue to read my blog and not run for the hills.  I’m basically resorting back to my toddler days when I said I had to go to the bathroom, and it meant right now….not in like the next few minutes, but like RIGHT NOW!  This is a lovely side effect that I’ve been dealing with since fall 2012, but it is what it is and I deal with it.  So, I have learned today that it will just be easier to take the vest off when using the restroom versus trying to hold it up and keep it from dangling into the toilet (eww), and basically it will just be more sanitary if I hang it on the door hook instead of trying to perform magic hand tricks with a full 360 degrees of fringe.  No one tells you these things when you purchase an item.  No one says, “Yes, it’s cute, but as a heads up- the fringe might fall in the toilet, so either don’t use the bathroom while wearing it or plan to take it off first.”  That info would be helpful people!  Shoot, the manufacturers of the item list 800 different things of information on the tag, could they not also squeeze in the fine print, “remove article when trying to go the bathroom?”

Don’t worry, if you saw me today, then I did not get anything on my vest.  I’m not walking around in a poop vest, but I just figured it would be a whole lot easier to take this item off first.  Maybe, this is Captain Obvious to the rest of the female population, but I’m tired today.  Am I tired because I’m on the 2nd chemo med and on day 12 of drugs or am I tired because I’ve had to leave for work by 6:45 the past two mornings?  I don’t know.  Maybe a little bit of both.  I will say that the past 2 days have been soooooo looooooonnnng.  I mean, I feel like I’ve already done 20 things, and it’s only 10am.  This is good, I guess, but not when you’re trying to conserve energy and just make it through the week!  It’s hard when you want to do all of your normal activities which for me this week consists of working, monogramming, taking the boys to swim lessons, working out (let’s be honest, working out these days means doing a 30 minute work out DVD or 25 minutes on the elliptical…I’m not running marathons here or committing to a WOD), making dinner (ha- okay, that usually gets dropped from the list), and other mommy or wife duties.  I guess that is normal for most, but doing normal stuff makes me feel better.  I am living in 2 week intervals these days.  Gotta get through day 14, I’ll expect to feel tired through the weekend, and then I get a few days of feeling 100% normal….or as normal as this odd little self can be!

So, what’s the message of the day?  Don’t wear fringe anything when going to the bathroom, and do what you gotta do to get through the day…or the week…or whatever your interval is.

  1. Glad to see your sense of humor is strobg as ever. I’ve never worn a vest with fringe, but your description of the experience had me cracking up! Love you and thanks for the laughs!

  2. Thanks, Uncle Andy (that’s how you are always referred to in our house)! Laughter usually makes things better!
