Enjoying some wine before everything turns to metal in my mouth. I’m on day 2 of round 3 of chemo, and so far so good. Mike and I got to enjoy chaperoning Prom and have a date night last night. Prom is over the top and pretty amazing! It’s fun to see our students and athletes all dolled up and looking their best and praying they’re acting their best. In case you are curious, the current trends are crop tops, having a dress with a train (that’s sole purpose it to get stepped on) and head to toe floral dresses. Some gals even had a combination of all three of these trends. Most everyone looked very nice and appropriate, but a few needed to rethink the crop top. Not everyone can pull off a crop top, and while I applaud your confidence, I would prefer you take a second glance in the mirror and go with a different (more flattering) option. I would love to hear what these girls say about their dresses 10 years from now! Haha! “Oh my goodness! A crop top with head to toe floral?! Why did my mother buy that for me?!” We all say it! Shoot, my senior year I wore corn-rows! There is a chance that it may have been corn-rows with (wait for it)…butterfly clips! AHHHHH! Thankfully, none of my photos can confirm this small detail. Any who, 2 of my girlfriends are in charge of the Prom festivities, and they do an amazing job. They are pretty, smart and fun- the kind most girls love to hate. Tonight we are enjoying the amazing weather by sitting on the porch, listening to music and having dinner. The kids are drinking their milk (roll tide, Bama fans), I’m drinking pinot gritio while Mike has a beer. The school year is coming to a close and summer is right around the corner. For 2 teachers in one household, this is a coveted part of the year. We all get to be together for 2 months. Now, don’t get confused- we still work with our athletes during the summer and do professional development, but it’s a different schedule that is less demanding.
Unfortunately, I feel that this summer will be lived in 2 week intervals. We already have a chemo schedule worked into our calendar…no fun. I just want to be normal! I understand that cancer is a part of my life, but I do not want it to become my life or my family’s life. I’ve said it 100 times at least, but normalcy is comfort to me. Last night at Prom, for example, was great! Very few people asked me or brought up the C word, and I was able to focus on how pretty everyone looked, and how much fun everyone is having….me included! Don’t misunderstand- it’s so nice that everyone asks about me and cares about me…it just gets hard answering the same question 20 times a day.
Today, I got to have lunch with my fabulous sister-in-law, Jen. The boys were with me, and we got to throw coins in the fountain after lunch which was big fun for them. Of course, I wanted to have a photo-op and this was the best we could do with 2 boys wanting to noodle out at the thought of having to pause and smile at Aunt Jen’s phone. After the photo session failure, we shopped at one of our all-time favorite stores, Lululemon (This is one of mine and Jen’s favorite stores, not the boys BUT they do have a large dressing room with a basket of toys in it, so the boys love that; which again only adds to why I love the store.). If you haven’t had a chance to shop here for your workout gear, then you should. Now, don’t choke when you see that a tank top is $58, and the sale tank is a whopping discount down to $44. I promise it’s worth the money- you don’t need to buy the whole store- just a few staple items. You’ll look good and feel good! Isn’t that what we all want?
Cheers to you! I hope you had a fantastic weekend whether you were Promming, lunching or shopping! As for me, because you may be wondering and (now) don’t want to ask, I’m doing good. I’ve started round 3, and I will get through it. Thanks for showing you care; I really do appreciate the love and support!
I actually like that Baker is squirming out of your lap instead of smiling nice for the picture, makes me feel that it’s not me he’s squirming to get away from when he’s on my lap, he just has too many places to go and things to do.
