Quick Hair Tip
Quick Hair Tip

Need to be somewhere fast and want to your hair to look like Blake Lively, but don’t have time?  Too bad.  You’re out of luck- never going to happen.  BUT if you want to have decent hair and are in a time crunch, then do this.  Dry your hair, then loosely pull it up into a high ponytail…as in the 80s called and want their high ponytail back…that high.  My hair creases easily, so use one of those elastic fabric hair ties and only wrap it around a couple of times.  Use your curling iron, […]

I’m a Teacher Who is Tired…Nothing New
I’m a Teacher Who is Tired…Nothing New

Okay, everyone is tired.  This is not anything new or special- we are all tired.  Yes, teachers have it great because we get summers off, but I guarantee there would be less (happy) teachers in the world if we didn’t have summers off.  We need time to recharge and get a chance to rejuvenate our love for the profession.  Teaching is hard because often times you also have to parent as well as teach.  It’s not like it used to be; teachers don’t have the authority that they used to have.  My students, particularly in […]

Fringe is hard to wear in the bathroom
Fringe is hard to wear in the bathroom

Okay, I am not on the fringe train right now, but I did recently buy an Umgee fringe vest. I don’t know if the 70s is completely my style, but I can take a few nods from the era here and there.  The vest was cute though, and I thought it might be a fun way to get to wear a vest in the summer and keep my thumb on some sort of a current trend.  I’m wearing it today (round 3 of chemo, day 12 of 14), and one of the side effects of […]

An Itch Changed My Life
An Itch Changed My Life

It all started with an itch… Sunday, September 9, 2012, Mike and I put Fischer (who was almost 11 months old) in the stroller, grabbed Baxter and went for a family walk around our neighborhood.  We stopped at several little neighborhood parks along the walk and got out in the grass to play.  By the time we got home, it was time for me to nurse Fischer.  I was terribly itchy though, so I decided to shower and rinse off before I fed the little guy.  I just assumed that playing in the grass made […]

For the Right Reasons
For the Right Reasons

I finished another book!  For the people that can read a book in a day, this is not a big accomplishment that it’s May and I’ve finished a book.  For me, it’s huge that it’s May and I’ve finished TWO books!  I don’t have a ton of time to read, and when I do get a quiet moment to myself I usually want to flip on a Real Housewives episode or another episode of Southern Charm!  I had 2 books brought to me recently though, and they have both been great, so I’m going to […]

Metallics should be fun colors, not a taste.
Metallics should be fun colors, not a taste.

Day 7 of 14 in this chemo round, and Lord help me get rid of this darn metallic taste in my mouth!  It is on point!  Cold drinks with flavor help combat it, but it’s just like a band-aid.  It doesn’t solve the problem, just pacifies it.  We got to have breakfast as a family before Fischer went off to school and Mike went off to work.  I have to order my food with a plastic knife and fork because I can’t handle putting a metal anything in my mouth.  My Papa Jacks (mmmm) biscuit […]

I Want It All…
I Want It All…

I’m not referencing Queen’s I Want It All, I am referencing the young, country artist Cam on her album Untamed.  This gal’s album is great from start to finish.  The song that connects to me personally is I Want It All because of the chorus… I want it all Don’t want no rocking-chair regrets I got that fire that’s burning in my chest Gonna keep on living ’til I hear the last call And I, I, I want it all Cam, you pretty little curly-head thing, I agree!  I am going to keep on living until I hear the […]

Champagne taste on a Target budget
Champagne taste on a Target budget

I want my hair to look like I pay a stylist daily, but I’m on a Target budget (this is an upgrade from the Wal-Mart budget).  Look good.  Feel good.  It’s a simple concept, but it can be hard.  We can all make excuses, but the truth is that if it is important, then we will make time for it and/or budget for it.  I’m here to help you narrow through the crap and tell you what’s good in the world of hair to save you time.  Now, I am not a hair stylist, and […]

Wine and Roll Tide!
Wine and Roll Tide!

Enjoying some wine before everything turns to metal in my mouth.  I’m on day 2 of round 3 of chemo, and so far so good.  Mike and I got to enjoy chaperoning Prom and have a date night last night.  Prom is over the top and pretty amazing!  It’s fun to see our students and athletes all dolled up and looking their best and praying they’re acting their best.  In case you are curious, the current trends are crop tops, having a dress with a train (that’s sole purpose it to get stepped on) and […]

What Shaun T taught me…
What Shaun T taught me…

What Shaun T taught me this week is…I’m out of shape.  I’m not a big person, so you might falsley assume that I am in shape…I am not though.  I have run a half marathon before.  I used to run 4 miles and then practice with the Ga. Force cheerleaders for 3 hours.  I used to be able to run my hilly neighborhood pushing a stroller.  Today, I had to follow the modified demonstration on Shaun T’s T25 workout.  This is sad news to me, but you know what- it is what it is.  At […]

I worked out! (then ate potato chips)
I worked out! (then ate potato chips)

I worked out!  I did it!  I used to work out…all…the…time!  These days?!  Not.  So.  Much.  Working out is a roller coaster for a lot of women, so I know there are other gals out there that can relate.  I used to work out because I wanted to lose weight, then to make sure I was thin enough and tone enough to cheer for the Ga. Force and then the Atlanta Falcons.  Then I worked out to try to keep baby weight from coming on, then I worked out to get baby weight off.  Then […]

Lab work for chemo
Lab work for chemo

Today is a weird day.  First of all, I’m having to take the day off from work, so I can go to doctors appointments which means I am not in my normal routine…this I don’t like.  In Tampa, my doctor prescribed 3 months of chemotherapy in a pill form, then after 3 rounds I would need to do another CT scan to see how my tumor is reacting to the chemo.  We are hopeful that the chemo is shrinking the tumor(s).  After the scan, we’ll have the information needed in order to proceed with either […]

Great (cheap) product alert!
Great (cheap) product alert!

I was sitting in class the other day, and one of my students busted out her Maybelline Baby Lips before the bell rang for her to go to her next class.  I asked her if she liked it- I’d seen it but never thought to try it- and she said she loved it!  Well, later that week I saw one of the Housewives on TV bust out her Baby Lips!  I was thinking, “what do other people know that I don’t?”  If there is some sort of amazing lip gloss, chap stick, lip balm-something on […]

Asian Coleslaw- E.A.S.Y.
Asian Coleslaw- E.A.S.Y.

I am very aware that I am not the best person for you to take cooking advice from, BUT I do know that I have a few dishes that are so easy and so good.  I feel obligated to share them with you because it’s nice to have a simple, go-to dish.  I make this almost anytime we host a party or need a “green” side dish.  It’s also really good as leftovers, and this is coming from a gal that doesn’t eat leftovers.  I’m not even sure that this picture does this justice, but […]

Being a mom is HARD!
Being a mom is HARD!

Let me clarify…being a GOOD mom is HARD!  It really is!  It’s 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, and you don’t get PTO.  You’re constantly concerned whether you’re doing the right thing for your children and making the best decisions for their interest.  My friend Ashley Curry gave me the very best advice ever…”you do what you gotta do to get through the day.”  This gives me peace.  Some days my mommy skills are on fire, and other days I could do things better.  Ultimately, I (and when I say I, I […]
